That clean feeling.

October 18, 2011

I just mentioned to a co-worker I was glad his homemade hummus did not contain cumin in it because, well, the spice always smells like an unwashed armpit to me. And it tastes less appealing than that if you can discern the flavor instead of letting it incorporate itself into the whole flavor of a dish.

“Like a dirty hippie,” he said.

Turns out, he has friends with a vegan soap company and one of their products is called Dirty Hippie.

There’s no cumin in the blend, but it does feature both patchouli and sandalwood.

What flashbacks that prompts. And, yes, some dirty hippies were involved, as were old-time health food stores, Peggy Lipton beads and peace symbols.

Despite the name — or perhaps because of it — Dirty Hippie is one of the company’s top sellers.

  1. Figured this had to be true – who could make it up. Sure enough:

Even the copyright notice is entertaining.

    • What’s funny is, is that’s not the company my friend was speaking of. It seems as if this local group has had to change the name because of the larger company you mention. But the name is still a riot.
